Privacy & Terms
Plain language — what we store, and what we don't.
Last updated: June 2026. Crazyhouse is a free chess-puzzle and play-vs-bot site. You can use most of it with no account at all.
The short version
- Play as a guest and your progress stays on your device — we don't send it anywhere.
- Optionally sign in (email code) to save your progress across devices.
- We show no ads, and we don't sell your data.
What's stored, and where
- On your device (browser localStorage): your ratings, which puzzles you've solved, review schedule, settings (sound, theme), a nickname, and a marker that you've chosen guest-or-account. This never leaves your browser unless you sign in.
- In our database (Supabase), only if you sign in: your email address and your puzzle ratings, attempts and review schedule — so they follow you between devices.
- Public leaderboard (only if you choose to publish): the display name and rating you publish are stored on our server and shown to everyone. Don't publish a name you don't want public.
- Briefly, in server memory (never written to disk): your IP address, held for about a minute purely to rate-limit abuse (stop floods). It isn't stored, isn't linked to your account, and is discarded automatically.
At a glance
| What | Where | Only if… | Kept |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ratings, solved puzzles, review schedule, settings, nickname | Your device (localStorage) | always (guest) | until you clear your browser |
| Email + synced progress | Our database (Supabase) | you sign in | until you ask us to delete it |
| Display name + rating | Public leaderboard | you publish | until bumped off / you ask us to remove it |
| IP address | Server memory only | always (anti-abuse) | ~1 minute, never saved |
What we don't store: no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, no location, contacts or device fingerprint, and we never sell your data.
Cookies & tracking
We don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Progress is kept in localStorage (not cookies). If you sign in, your browser holds a Supabase authentication token so you stay logged in. We currently use no third-party analytics.
Usage analytics (first-party, aggregate)
To understand which games get played and to catch things that break on real phones, we keep a few anonymous, aggregate counters on our own server — no third-party tracker, no cookies, no personal data:
- Page and game counts: how many times each page/route is opened, and a per-game "opened → board loaded → move → win" tally, so we can see where players drop off.
- JavaScript errors: the page and a short error message (no personal data), so a crash on a real phone stops being invisible to us.
- Load speed: how many milliseconds a page took to load on your device.
- Rough visitor count: to count people and not just page loads, the server turns your IP address into a one-way scrambled code using a secret that is thrown away and replaced every day — so the code can't be traced back to you and your IP address is never stored.
All of this is counted in totals only — never tied to your account, never sold, never shared. It resets whenever we update the site.
Do-Not-Track & opt-out
If your browser sends a Do-Not-Track signal, we send none of the above. You can also switch it off here on this device — your choice is saved in your browser:
Your choices
- Clear your browser data to wipe all local (guest) progress on this device.
- Signed in? You can have your account and data deleted — see Delete your account & data.
Delete your account & data
To delete your account, email support@crazyhouse.cc from the email address you sign in with (so we can verify it's you), with the subject "Delete my account". We confirm and delete within 30 days.
- What gets deleted: your account (sign-in email) and everything synced to it — puzzle attempts, ratings, the review queue, and your cross-device progress record (diamonds, XP, levels, cosmetics).
- What stays on your devices: local (guest) progress lives only in your browser — clear the site's browser data (or uninstall the app) to remove it.
- Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.
